Congrats to Brett for his excellent finish at the Bighorn 100. I ran with him for the last 52 miles and I am wrecked. There’s a reason this is a Hardrock qualifier.
Oh, and the mud.

📚 I finished reading (listening to) The Hobbit over the weekend. The narrator did a great job with the songs. I kept wondering how they turned 7 hours of reading material into 7 hours of film material, and it was by adding a ton of extra stuff that wasn’t in the book.

Congratulations to Melissa for crushing the North Fork 50 miler yesterday with a 27 minute course PR and 5th place finish.

After 25 years of running I can say definitively that today’s run was the most unpleasant ever. I got caught in a violent hailstorm with no shirt (it was 79° F when I left home). After 10-15 minutes of pelting I was able to find shelter. I stood soaking wet in the howling wind for 20 minutes with my skin stinging and my scalp aching. Once the hail let up I ran home on sidewalks flooded with shin deep frigid water. I couldn’t feel my feet for the last mile. I’m bruised all over and my skin is still tingling hours later.

When I moved into this house 3 years ago I bought a vent to install in the bathroom ceiling. I installed it today. I guess it was hard to find the right combination of motivation, free time, and appropriate attic weather (we only have 2 seasons: summer/winter).
